Indian National Army Secret Service:

Saga of secret Patriots or Enemy Agents

During World War II (WWII) various intelligence organisations had been set up specifically to conduct covert operations which focused on sabotage, subversion and propaganda activities. A large number of academic studies on WWII covert operations focused on allied covert operations and not many had evaluated the strategic effectiveness of Japanese covert operations. One such Japanese unit was the Fujiwara Kikan or F. Kikanwhich was formed to support the Japanese invasion of Malaya and Singapore.

In 1939, Fujiwara was transferred to the military intelligence unit within the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff, tasked with planning operations in south and Southeast Asia. He traveled to Bangkok in 1941, and joined the Japanese Southern Expeditionary Army Group as Chief of Staff the same year. In 1941 Fujiwara established the F Kikan, a Japanese special operations unit, which was tasked with developing and assisting independence movements in British India, Malaya andNetherlands East Indies. In 1943, Fujiwara and his unit were transferred to the IJA 15th Army. F-Kikan greatly assisted in the establishment of the Indian National Army.

This edition on 2020 plays significant role in informing our present generation about the role of INA and it's various units which operated under very tough conditions against British Raj in 1940's. As a publisher I have felt that very facts have been written in our text books and youth of India is not aware of that we once had full army named AZAD HIND FAUJ. Netaji's contribution is diluted in our history books.

Movies and social media has aroused new queries among fresh readers who are searching for facts and figures and here we present them small but important information about INA's Secret Service Units which were fully functional with support from Japanese counterparts. Its' a matter of chance that Late Shri Moti Lal Bhargava a historian had met my father Late Shri S K Bhatia and handed over some important manuscripts like INA Secret Service; INA Tokyo Cadets; Role of Press In The Freedom Movement of India etc which were published in 1980's and 1990's and are now source material for many researchers across the globe.

We have just added brief biographies in the last without disturbing the main text of this book so that present reader is able to connect with INA and its functionaries.

The role of our author Shri M L Bhargava is quite noteworthy to do research in the era when there was no GOOGLE or internet.

Present readers should understand that there were 1000's of unsung heroes who died for the sake of India's Independence working as silent soldiers of INA in various forms and there were many cheaters too who were just double agents or worked just for money.
